Job Title: Controller Compensation:
$100,000 – $104,000 Salary
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm
Overview of Position The Controller will manage the accounting department, oversee daily accounting operations, produce accurate and timely financial statements, and supervise accounting functions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction or a similar industry and a passion for detail.
Responsibilities
Lead daily operations of the Accounting Department
Produce accurate and timely financial statements
Supervise and provide guidance to junior accounting staff
Oversee payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Manage daily deposits (electronic checks, credit card, physical checks) and post them against accounts receivable
Assist accounts receivable collection
Invoice residential construction jobs and time‑and‑materials work
Maintain job files, billing records, and change orders for residential new construction
Review invoices for proper billing
Process checks for accounts payable and notes payable, maintaining good credit standing
Maintain the work‑in‑progress worksheet for residential new construction
Handle state and sales tax reporting
Assist with audits and maintain W‑9 documentation
Reconcile balance‑sheet accounts at month‑end and update the general ledger with adjustments
Prepare monthly and annual general journal entries as needed
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (desired)
5+ years of controller/full‑charge bookkeeping experience
Supervisory and training experience with junior accounting staff
Experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable
Invoicing and billing experience
Account reconciliation skills
Financial reporting and monthly closing expertise
Budget analysis and forecasting ability
Job‑costing experience
Payroll experience including deductions, 401(k), and commissions
QuickBooks expertise
Advanced Microsoft Office skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly organized and self‑directed
Advanced customer service and computer skills
