Overview Assist in the coordination and technical oversight of a variety of laboratory procedures for the assigned area(s) of the laboratory. Serve as a resource for other technologists, providing teaching, training, and troubleshooting related to sample processing and testing. Collaborate with the laboratory supervisor or director to keep the area current, ensuring that the data obtained from testing is used by referring physicians for patient diagnosis and treatment. Professional judgment is exercised to ascertain the appropriateness of test orders, validate test results, and communicate findings to the laboratory supervisor or director.
Responsibilities
Perform high complexity testing and laboratory procedures in the assigned area(s) of the Genetics Laboratory.
Assist in coordinating departmental activities within the lab section(s) assigned.
Help coordinate continuous quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement activities.
Maintain general operations of the laboratory.
Engage in research activities as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 1–2 years of laboratory experience; a minimum of 1 year working in Children’s Mercy Genetics Laboratory preferred.
Valid certification: one of the following—MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, MB (ASCP), Certified Cytogenetics Technician, Certified Medical Technologist – ASCP—required upon hire.
Additional certifications such as MB (ASCP), CG (ASCP), or MT (ASCP) are required upon hire.
Immunization & Health Requirements Seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment for all employees. New employees must be willing to be vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chickenpox (varicella) or demonstrate evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. Immunization records will be required upon hire. Medical and/or religious exemptions can be discussed with Human Resources.

Starting Pay Pay ranges are market competitive. The starting rate for this position is $33.23 per hour, with final compensation based on education and experience.
Remote Work/Work from Home This position is not eligible for remote work; the successful candidate will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
