Role Description Arcadis is searching for a
Senior Structural Engineer
to join our Resilience Water Team in Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., or Georgia! You will utilize your expertise and technical knowledge of structural design & construction engineering to successfully execute projects within the Municipal & Industrial Water/Wastewater and Water Resources infrastructure markets.
Accountabilities In this role you will lead water and wastewater design engineering and construction projects. You will be responsible for leading structural condition assessments, design calculations, technical reports, permitting, detailed design and engineering plans and specifications for projects such as plant upgrades, storage facilities, pipelines, stormwater systems, pump stations, and distribution/collection systems.
Responsibilities
Mentor entry-level and junior structural engineering staff.
Organize and conduct structural‑related engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work that has a well‑defined scope.
Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
Lead the development of calculations, plans, specifications, procurement documents, and supplemental contract documents.
Work directly with engineering disciplines, office/project staff, clients, and subcontractors throughout the project life cycle, coordinating meetings and presentations.
Exercise judgment on details of work and preliminary selections and engineering alternatives.
Manage production of engineering drawings, specifications, bid packages, and cost estimates.
Act as Engineer of Record, Task Manager, or Project Engineer on projects to manage budgets, schedules, deliverables, and permit checklists, ensuring timely completion.
Some travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, planning, or construction oversight.
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications
12 years of structural engineering experience in Water/Wastewater.
Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis).
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Structural or Civil/Structural.
Key Attributes The ideal candidate possesses strong structural analysis and design skills, proficiency in STAAD Pro and other structural software, excellent technical writing and editing abilities, and experience reviewing project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. Proficiency with AutoCAD/REVIT and knowledge of IBC, ACI, and related codes are essential.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, at least 15 years of experience in the Water/Wastewater sector, PE license in multiple states, SE license or NCEES SE designation, NCEES 16‑Hour structural exam completion, and proficiency in MATHCAD.
