Job Summary Under the general supervision of a Supervisor, Manager, or Director, the Medical Technologist II performs clinical laboratory testing pursuant to established protocols, maintains equipment and records, and conducts quality assurance activities. The candidate will serve as a generalist in all areas of the General Lab and Blood Bank or as a key operator/subject‑matter expert in their assigned area, maintaining accurate results and adherence to protocols.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Work independently to analyze blood and body fluids for ordered diagnostic tests in the General laboratory, Blood Bank, or Microbiology sections, adhering to established procedures.

Perform routine testing in hematology, manual hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, processing, chemistry, manual chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology as requested.

Complete all laboratory supplementary tasks for quality control, chemical safety, and documentation of required activities and logs.

Effectively communicate all information to appropriate personnel; participate in shift‑to‑shift hand‑off communication.

Act as a resource to pathologists, resolve issues, field problem calls, and maintain critical logs.

Serve as a technical resource for other technicians; train staff in new procedures.

Manage scheduled maintenance on key instruments, maintain procedure manuals, reagent logs, and QC reports.

Order supplies, keep inventory stocked for at least two weeks, and assist with performance improvement projects.

Perform linearity and correlation studies bi‑annually for key instruments, evaluate new tests, and conduct CAP surveys as assigned.

Maintain CAP and Joint Commission readiness; participate in blood bank rotations as needed.

Complete shift assignments and work as necessary during evenings or nights, in accordance with scheduling.

Required Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Health Science, General Science, or Master’s degree in Business Administration/Management.

Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications

MT(ASCP) – Medical Technologist, or MT(AMT), or MT(HEW), or MT(AAB), or MLS(ASCP), or MLS(AMT).

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, with Epic experience preferred.

Required Minimum Skills

Computer/data entry experience with proficiency in Excel, Word, and basic computer operations.

Strong communication skills with healthcare team members.
