Director, Manufacturing Supply Chain – GWW - US Job Summary

Lead and transform the end-to-end manufacturing supply chain organization by building scalable planning, procurement, inventory controls and partner with sourcing teams to optimize operational efficiency, ensure business continuity, and drive cost-effective growth. Responsible for integrating and leading contract manufacturers strategy Globally, developing high-performing teams and implementing integrated systems that align supply chain strategy with business objectives while maintaining quality standards and mitigating risks across internal operations and contract manufacturing partnerships. Develop and lead business continuity plan for Gilchrist & Soames business.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Supply Chain Leadership

Architect and direct a comprehensive supply chain planning organization, including master scheduling, short-term production planning, and procurement.

Drive strategic transformation through development and execution of the supply chain roadmap, integrating best practices in planning, sourcing, materials management and strategic software integrity.

Serve as the supply chain lead for cross-functional coordination with manufacturing, quality, sales, finance, and contract manufacturing partners.

Master and Production Planning

Design and optimize master production planning processes aligned with sales forecasts and capacity constraints.

Deploy advanced production scheduling tools to optimize throughput and minimize changeovers.

Align raw material and component availability with manufacturing execution plans.

Procurement and Sourcing

Partner with Procurement and Sourcing to build a strategic sourcing function to identify, qualify, and manage suppliers globally.

Execute strategic supplier negotiations and spearhead cost optimization initiatives while ensuring quality and reliability.

Implement supplier performance scorecards and risk mitigation plans.

Inventory Management

Establish robust inventory control and replenishment processes for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.

Implement systematic inventory cycle counting and reconciliation practices.

Lead root-cause analysis of excess and obsolete inventory (E&O) and implement proactive mitigation strategies.

Contract Manufacturing Planning

Develop integrated planning processes for contract manufacturers (CMs) including demand signals, supply commitments, and replenishment.

Standardize communication, tracking, and reporting practices for all CM planning activities.

Optimize CM production lead times and batch sizes to align with forecast variability.

Team Leadership and Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing supply chain team across planning, procurement, and sourcing.

Foster a culture of accountability, agility, and data-driven decision-making.

Serve as an executive mentor to directors and managers across the organization. Plays a key role in developing leadership talent within the organization.

Process and System Implementation

Engineer and deploy scalable SOPs, policies, and digital tools to support end-to-end supply chain processes.

Champion the deployment of integrated supply chain planning and analytics platforms (e.g., MRP/ERP, dashboards).

Ensure compliance with internal and external requirements (e.g., quality, traceability, Sysco policies).

Business Continuity Plan

Build and manage a business continuity plan for the defined critical customers / brands.

Audit and scenario testing / planning of the business continuity plan.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an area of relevant studies such as Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research or Business.

Master/MBA degree preferred in an area of relevant study such as Business Administration, Engineering Management, Supply Chain Management.

15 or more years of experience in supply chain operations, supply chain design in the areas of general merchandise distribution and/or manufacturing. Experience should include a series of leadership roles of increasing responsibility in related field and industry responsible for architecting best-in-class processes and tools from the ground up, ensuring supply continuity, inventory health, and a significant reduction in inventory excess & obsolescence.

Experience leading teams of 5+ engineers and managers as well as leading or working collaboratively with sourcing teams.

Expertise in master planning, project management and inventory management.

Skills

Strong leadership skills, including the ability to mentor and develop individuals and teams. Able to engage and lead team discussions and meetings. Collaborative management style and strategic team player. Delegates responsibilities effectively.

Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and professional interactive skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, management and inter-department staff.

Well-developed strategic planning, business and financial management skills (i.e., pricing, forecasting, budget planning, etc.). Understanding Sysco’s key business metrics and systems – preferred.

Strong analytical and technology skills in productivity, performance, and other related data.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of P&L and key components to drive and sustain positive financial results.

Strong presentation and negotiation skills.

Fact-based decision-making style and the type of senior executive who comes to the table with a pragmatic view of the marketplace and the opportunities within it, but who also recommends solutions at both a strategic and functional level.

Mastery of organizational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple initiatives/deadlines autonomously and shift priorities, as necessary.
