Overview
Well-established Los Angeles law firm seeks 1-2 experienced Labor and Employment Litigation Associates to join their specialized employment defense practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for attorneys with 2-8 years of employment defense experience to take on significant responsibility as primary handling attorneys on their own cases within a supportive and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities
Primary Case Management: Serve as the lead attorney on employment litigation matters including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, and retaliation claims Court Appearances: Represent employer clients in state and federal courts for hearings, motions, and trials Discovery Management: Handle all phases of written discovery specific to employment matters, including personnel file reviews, witness interviews, and document production Depositions: Conduct and defend depositions of employees, supervisors, HR personnel, and expert witnesses Motion Practice: Draft and argue summary judgment motions, motions to compel, motions for protective orders, and other employment-specific motions Administrative Proceedings: Handle EEOC charges, DFEH complaints, and other administrative agency matters Alternative Dispute Resolution: Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences Pre-Trial Preparation: Conduct comprehensive case preparation including witness preparation, exhibit organization, and trial strategy development Trial Experience: First-chair trial experience in employment litigation matters Client Counseling: Provide preventive advice on employment practices, policies, and procedures Case Strategy: Develop and implement defense strategies for single-plaintiff and class action employment matters Required Qualifications
Education: J.D. from an accredited law school Bar Admission: Active member of the California State Bar in good standing Experience: 2-8 years of employment defense litigation experience Employment Law Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and California employment laws including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FEHA, California Labor Code, and wage and hour regulations Litigation Skills: Demonstrated experience in all phases of employment litigation Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to explain complex legal concepts to business clients Preferred Qualifications
Experience defending public entities in employment matters Background in insurance defense for employment practices liability Class action defense experience, particularly wage and hour class actions Experience with workplace investigations PAGA (Private Attorney General Act) litigation experience Trial experience with successful defense outcomes Experience counseling clients on employment compliance matters Types of Cases
