U.S. Citizen Applicants are required to complete the Personal History Statement on the day of the Civil Service Exam Be eligible for certification from TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Possess at least forty-eight (48) hours of college coursework with a 2.0 GPA from an accredited institution by the hire date, OR Possess at least two (2) years of experience as a regular full-time peace officer prior to the entrance examination, OR Possess at least two (2) years of active-duty military experience with an Honorable Discharge by the hire date, OR Possess any license issued by TCOLE for at least two (2) years prior to the examination, OR Currently employed as a full-time Grand Prairie Police Department employee for the two (2) years preceding the entrance examination Police Lateral Entry Program
The Police Lateral Entry Program provides a form of seniority pay designed to attract experienced applicants who would not require the training time of a new recruit. Compensation is based on years of prior experience. The program in effect at hire determines placement in the pay plan. Eligibility for Lateral Entry

Form DD-214: Applicants with military service may receive 5 points added to their passing score if they submit a DD-214 showing an honorable discharge.
