Overview
The Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (SVMI) position is ideal for seasoned forestry professionals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation, or related disciplines and with experience in these fields and line of work. Contingent at the approval of our contractors, the SVMI may support the Vegetation Management Inspector (VMI). The role involves inspections, audits, monitoring contractor performance, planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of assigned tree clearance crews, and serving as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and customers. Note: This position is designated as a safety-sensitive role. You must reside within 50 miles of Placerville, CA. Responsibilities
Inspect, audit, and monitor contractor performance to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency. Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of assigned tree clearance crews; serve as liaison between clients, tree crews, and customers. May act as the VM contact for new business and re-construction work requested by the Energy Delivery organization. With PG&E representative approval, approve scheduling and scope changes in the field. Promote safety on-site at all times by encouraging a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with safety rules, regulations, and standards; document Safety Observations and Good Catches. Audit VMIs work to ensure compliance with applicable standards; assist with training and onboarding of VM Inspectors; support PGE Work Verification to ensure observations are addressed in a timely manner. Maintain working relationships with public agencies (e.g., Caltrans, CalFire, USFS, BLM) and with PG&E’s tree contractors; assist in escalated work such as addressing customer complaints. Perform other duties as directed by PG&E representatives or as required by PG&E standards and procedures. Basic Responsibilities
Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work by PG&E's tree contractor to maintain compliance for a minimum of one calendar year. Determine next trim needs and assess trees with potential to strike facilities, determining if trimming or removal is necessary. Prescribe pruning and removal work to meet regulatory requirements and PG&E Vegetation Management standards; complete related tagging requirements. Ensure work aligns with PG&E Vegetation Management Standards and Procedures, project specifications, permits, and safety requirements; comply with all governing laws and regulations. Utilize computers and update data in PG&E's VMDSRs; work with software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. May perform Quality Check audits on VMIs and assist in outage investigations; assist in the local Divisional Operational Emergency Center as Vegetation Resource Coordinator as required; assist in fire and incident investigations and customer claims investigations. Respond to emergency duties per safety requirements, laws, and labor agreements; patrol all sections of line according to annual plans and VM patrol standards, documenting patrols per PG&E mapping procedures; identify Idle and Private Lines and notify PG&E representatives. Driving cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment; walking on uneven ground; exposure to noise, temperature, humidity, or wetness; operation of foot controls or repetitive foot movement; exposure to dust, gas, fumes, chemicals. Prolonged sitting; use of forestry-related equipment and safety gear (hard hat, vest, glasses, etc.). Qualifications
Must meet the general requirement below: High School diploma or GED, AND Must maintain a Class C driver's license AND meet one of the experience levels below. You must reside within 50 miles of Placerville, CA. Experience requirements (must meet one): Five (5) years of experience as a tree crew climber/tree crew foreman with at least two (2) years of line clearance certification OR Five (5) years of experience as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist OR Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Professional Forester OR Five (5) years of experience as a Utility Inspector or higher classification with at least one (1) year of vegetation management experience OR Four (4) years of Military Service with honorable discharge and at least one (1) year additional year of vegetation management inspection experience AND Approval by PG&E Representative Required Skills: Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates Strong communication and organizational skills Customer service skills Experience with data collection devices and GIS software desired Proficient in Microsoft Office; self-motivated, organized, production oriented Strong verbal and written communication Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules (nights and weekends as needed) Ability to learn and use company- or job-specific software systems Ability to read and follow maps Accountability, accuracy, dependability, and a proactive work ethic Independence and interpersonal skills; job knowledge and a positive attitude Ability to generate adequate amounts of work and perform at a level comparable to peers The tasks undertaken in this role are contingent upon the contractual agreement between ACRT Pacific and the Customer and may not entail a permanent arrangement. The base hourly amount for this role is $50.35 per hour. In addition, you will receive an in lieu of benefits amount of $12.59 per hour paid for eligible hours, totaling $62.94 per hour. Union members also receive a $50.00 daily subsistence payment for each day worked beyond 4 hours. Other factors may affect total compensation, including medical, dental, or vision insurance, per diems, or region-specific benefits as eligible.
