Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (Transmission) | Placerville, CA
ACRT Pacific is seeking a Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (SVMI) to perform inspections, audits, and monitor contractor performance in the Placerville, CA area. The role is safety‑sensitive and requires residency within 50 miles of Placerville.
Job Overview As the SVMI, you will plan, direct, and coordinate tree clearance crews, serve as liaison between clients, crews and customers, and ensure all work complies with PG&E Vegetation Management Standards and local agency requirements.
Responsibilities
Resolve obstacles to complete work safely, cost‑effective, and efficiently.
Manage day‑to‑day activities, verify scope, equipment use, and documentation.
Act as VM contact for new business and re‑construction work requested by the Energy Delivery organization.
Approve scheduling and scope changes in the field with PG&E approval.
Promote a positive safety culture, perform and document Safety Observations and Good Catches.
Audit work performed by other VMIs to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
Assist with training and onboarding of VM Inspectors.
Support the PG&E Work Verification team in addressing observations.
Maintain relationships with public agencies (Caltrans, CalFire, USFS, BLM) and PG&E contractors.
Patrol distribution or transmission circuits, prescribe work to contractors, and maintain clearance compliance.
Determine trimming needs and assess hazard potential for trees near PG&E facilities.
Ensure work follows PG&E Vegetation Management Standards, project specifications, and all safety requirements.
Use computers to run reports and update data within PG&E’s VMDSRs.
Perform quality‑check audits on assigned VMIs and assist in outage, incident, and customer claims investigations.
Assist in emergency response and local operational emergency center duties as directed.
Perform other work as directed by the PG&E representative or PG&E standards.
Equipment, Environmental and Safety Requirements
Operation of vehicles, trucks, forklifts, and forestry equipment.
Walking on uneven ground and exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
Use of safety gear such as hard hats, safety vests, glasses.
Prolonged periods of driving, meetings, and training.
Tools: clinometer, range finder, logger’s tape, DBH tape.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Class C driver’s license.
Experience in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation or related fields.
Experience Requirements
Five (5) years as a tree crew climber/tree crew foreman with at least two (2) years line clearance certification, or
Five (5) years as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist, or
Five (5) years as a Registered Professional Forester, or
Five (5) years as a Utility Inspector (or higher classification) with at least one (1) year vegetation management experience, or
Four (4) years of military service with honorable discharge plus one (1) year additional vegetation management inspection experience and PG&E approval.
Required Skills
Identify local trees and understand growth rates.
Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
Experience with data collection devices and GIS software.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather, including nights and weekends.
Strong verbal and written communication, adaptability, and teamwork.
Training
OSHA 30‑hour construction safety overview (within six months).
Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP) or Certified Arborist with TRAQ certificate (within six months).
9‑1‑1 Standby training (within one month).
Working knowledge of QA/QC (within one month).
Computer training for GIS and data entry (within one month).
Compensation and Benefits Base Compensation: $50.35/hour. In lieu of benefits: $12.59/hour, totaling $62.94/hour. Union members receive a $50.00 daily subsistence payment.
