This position is temporary, includes full state fringe benefits, and is anticipated to last up to three (3) years.
As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and advancing the strategic foundation for analytics and reporting to solve complex business challenges. You will apply advanced professional expertise in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and supporting the administration, maintenance, and security of data within modern database platforms to help the Minnesota Department of Corrections realize its vision of managing data as a strategic asset.
This role requires onsite presence at 1450 Energy Park Dr., St. Paul at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for MNIT is available on a limited basis; employees must meet current telework eligibility requirements.
Minimum Qualifications Information Technology Specialist 4 Level:
Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in business intelligence or data analytics.
Experience with Azure tech stack: Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Power BI.
Power BI skills, including DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
Programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and automation.
SQL expertise and experience with data modeling and database design.
Knowledge of cloud platforms and services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Customer service skills: active listening, empathy, problem‑solving.
A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT‑related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, or an associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Information Technology Specialist 5 Level:
Minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in business intelligence or data analytics.
Leadership experience guiding staff with Azure tech stack.
Power BI skills, including DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
Programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and automation.
SQL expertise and experience with data modeling and database design.
Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Customer service skills: active listening, empathy, problem‑solving.

Experience with data‑governance frameworks and establishing data‑quality standards in a government environment.
