Job Description
Orthopedic Technician – Hand, Foot & Ankle Clinic at Harborview Medical Center, affiliated with the University of Washington. The position supports the Foot & Ankle and Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Centers, providing clinical assistance for complex orthopaedic cases, casting, arthroscopy, and patient care.
Work Schedule
100% Full‑Time Equivalent, 40 hours per week
Day Shift, Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Primary Job Responsibilities
Assist physicians with complex casting, arthroscopic procedures, pin replacement/removal, and external fixator removal.
Monitor patients after casting; recognize emergent/urgent problems and provide telephone triage for cast issues.
Prepare and clean examination rooms.
Order durable medical supplies (DME) and maintain inventory per clinic protocols.
Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to providers.
Act as liaison between patients, families, and providers.
Assist providers with procedures and medical examinations.
Ensure a signed physician order is completed before submitting patients for imaging; remove and apply casts/splints, remove sutures as per established orders.
Assist in transporting patients as required.
Requirements
Certification through the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists (NAOT) or Registered Orthopedic Technologist certification through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP); OR
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant course (American Association of Medical Assistants or CAHEA) and two years of direct patient‑care experience; OR
Equivalent education/experience AND a valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card.
