The Department of Corrections, Division of Administration & Support, is recruiting for an Accountant 3/4 position, located in Juneau, Alaska.

Accountant 3/4 Flex (PCN 20-6607) As an Accountant 3, you will receive training to perform the full range of duties and as an Accountant 4 you will be fully proficient in all duties;

Internal audit functions

Provide analysis and recommendations of agency operations and internal, management, fiscal and accounting controls.

Prepare departmental financial reports for inclusion in the Annual Financial Comprehensive Report.

Write policies, procedures, and training for IRIS.

Ensure accurate production and reporting of financial data, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and precedents.

The Working Environment You Can Expect Our central offices are in beautiful Juneau‑Douglas with ample parking and a short walk to Sandy Beach. The work environment is collaborative and customer service oriented—the Team works as a tight knit group that values each other’s contributions and will interface daily with a variety of people including members of the public, field offices, other managers, directors, and the Commissioner’s Office.

Who We Are Looking For We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and cost methods.

Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on‑the‑job experience to perform one’s job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.

Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double‑entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of worksheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.

Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on‑the‑job experience to perform one’s job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

Education If post‑secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview, at the discretion of the hiring manager.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Criminal History Checks/APSIN/ACOMS Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
