Job Summary This role performs diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice. The practitioner works in accordance with physician orders across neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations, performing all essential functions of a Respiratory Care Practitioner Level I.
Essential Functions
Assist with orientation and training of Level I and Level II therapists and students.
Perform intra‑hospital transports with mechanical ventilators and/or airway protection and assure safe operation of devices in the MRI scanner.
Competently deliver Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen, Heliox, and other specialty gases.
Competently initiate and maintain pulmonary vasodilators.
Complete orientations in all intensive care units and acute care areas.
Evaluate appropriateness of medical orders.
Participate in clinical rounds with physicians, nurses, and other health‑care providers.
Respond to consults in the emergency department.
Provide education for patients/families and other care‑team members.
Interpret data and respond to optimize clinical objectives for patients.
Respond to emergencies in all services areas and serve as a member of the code/rapid response team.
Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with hospital policies, procedure standards, and the Code of Conduct, including Joint Commission requirements for safety, quality, and cultural sensitivity.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of a CoARC‑approved respiratory care program.
Experience: One (1) year in a Neo‑Peds Critical Care facility (including completed time in the Respiratory Care Residency Program) with NICU Level 3 and Pediatric Trauma Level 1, OR
Three (3+) years as an RCP in Adult Critical Care.
Licensing/Certification: Basic Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Respiratory Therapy License from the State of California, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), ACLS, and RCI Healthcare Provider Advanced Life Support.
Knowledge
Ability to adjust communications to the receiver’s level of understanding.
Knowledge of medical terminology and new technologies relevant to respiratory therapy.
Understanding of long‑ and short‑term mechanical ventilation, respiratory therapy techniques, and respiratory system anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Physical Requirements The position typically involves standing, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 45 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Pay Range Compensation is based on role level and requirements. Minimum to midpoint hourly range: $68.62–$77.81. Pay is determined by experience, education, location, and internal equity.
