Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a Labor & Delivery Nurse at Glendale Memorial Medical Center, part of CommonSpirit Health, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby with kindness and compassion.
You may triage patients, perform screening exams on walk‑ins, assist with inductions and deliveries, monitor fetal heart rate, and support families through both joyous and difficult moments. Your calm, controlled demeanor—especially in emergencies—ensures patients and families feel safe and supported.
Responsibilities
Triage walk‑ins to determine if a patient is in labor, water is broken, false alarm, etc.
Support pregnant patients in labor—including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), general pain management, and fetal monitoring.
Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage, and emergency procedures.
Educate patients on various interventions or procedures—medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages.
Assess newborn and provide initial care.
Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, charge nurse, postpartum unit, patient, and family.
Qualifications
Minimum 6 months of prior acute care experience in a similar unit.
Current California Registered Nurse license.
BLS & NRP certification.
Excellent communication and patient care skills.
