Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics The Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics (DAEE) at Montana State University is hiring a tenure‑track faculty member whose scholarly focus is on the economics of agricultural production and farm management. The appointment is a joint position funded by the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) and the College of Agriculture, offering a balanced mix of teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate, master’s, and outreach programs, and engage with state, national, and global audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide high‑quality instruction in agricultural business, economics, and financial engineering courses at the undergraduate and (potentially) master’s level.

Conduct scholarship that results in publications in leading peer‑reviewed journals.

Focus scholarship on economics of agricultural production, farm management, precision agriculture, energy economics, or financial risk/econometrics, with relevance to commercial agriculture in Montana.

Advise undergraduate and graduate students and participate in outreach activities.

Fulfill a 45% teaching, 45% scholarship, and 10% service distribution, with 50% appointment with MAES and 50% with the College of Agriculture.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a related field (prior to the starting date).

Strong potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and outreach/service.

Demonstrated interest in research areas relevant to commercial agriculture in Montana, such as production economics, farm/ranch management, agricultural marketing, precision agriculture, energy economics, and financial risk management.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Demonstrated success in scholarship and teaching.

Alignment of scholarship and outreach interests with the MAES mission.

Strength in economic theory and quantitative analysis.

Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Show a proven capacity to contribute meaningfully to DAEE’s teaching, research, and outreach missions.

The Program – The Department Montana State University is an R1 land‑grant university with a total enrollment of 17,000 students, including 2,000 graduate students. Bozeman is a community of 56,000 people. The DAEE is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and the College of Letters and Science, with 21 faculty members. Faculty are highly productive scholars who conduct research in agricultural and applied microeconomics, with a focus on high‑quality publications in leading refereed journals.
