Position Overview Department: Community Support Programs. Reports to: Direct Care Supervisor, CBDV. Full time, 37.5 hours/week. Monday–Friday 9 am–5 pm with flexibility to work after 5 pm or as required by supervision. Offers weekend and evening work. Pay rate: $22.00 per hour. FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.

YWCA of Western MA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering survivors. We provide a safe place for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Programs include crisis shelter and transitional housing, counseling, SAFEPLAN court advocacy, community education, supervised visitation, and vocational training for youth. Services are located at Holyoke, Northampton, Westfield, and Springfield.

Position Purpose The Domestic Violence Services Counselor provides emotional support, individual counseling, safety planning, court advocacy, medical advocacy, and support groups to survivors of domestic violence. The role also delivers domestic violence education classes, supports community outreach, and coordinates on‑call medical advocacy at regional hospitals.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide in‑person or virtual individual counseling to survivors in English or Spanish (12–15 sessions on average).

Offer safety planning and fulfill survivor‑identified immediate needs.

Be available for after‑hours counseling and flexible to work after 5 pm at least twice a week.

Participate in an on‑call rotation to respond to emergency medical advocacy calls within two hours.

Provide overnight, weekend, and on‑call coverage as scheduled.

Cover walk‑in client appointments during office hours.

Accompany participants in court and with police as needed.

Lead community groups for survivors and for participants with co‑occurring trauma (e.g., drop‑in support groups, transition classes).

Sexual assault and self‑care groups are included.

Qualifications

Minimum completed associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

Spanish language proficiency required.

Trauma‑informed skills; experience with domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, or stalking survivors.

Experience collaborating with nonprofits, schools, or colleges.

Public speaking experience with youth and adults.

Experience working with diverse populations and gender‑based violence survivors.

Knowledge of the impacts of racism and bias.

Strong verbal, written, and organizational communication skills.

Computer skills; reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Benefits and Compensation Competitive salary range: $58,000.00—$73,000.00 (based on experience).
