Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager I (Branch Chief) provides direction and leadership for a contracts branch, functions as a working supervisor, managing, directing, and overseeing the work of assigned staff, and acts as liaison with the Caltrans districts, divisions, and headquarter programs regarding interpretation of current laws, policies and procedures. The successful candidate must adhere to ethical practices and policies, ensure best value for the State, demonstrate a positive attitude, ability to build and maintain strong relationships, and a commitment to providing quality service that is accurate, timely and exceeds customers’ expectations. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Staff Services Manager I exam. Transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions must be on the state examination list to be eligible. Applicants who are new to state civil services employment must be on the examination list. The exam may be accessed by searching the classification title. Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle. Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required. Application Instructions
