Goosmann Law is currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Estate Planning/Probate Attorney to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a motivated attorney who enjoys working closely with clients to develop tailored estate planning strategies and is comfortable handling a variety of planning and probate matters. This attorney should have experience with managing probate and estate administration cases from start to finish, who thrives in a supportive, team-oriented environment, and is committed to delivering outstanding client service.
Responsibilities
Conduct client consultations and assess estate planning needs
Draft and review estate planning documents including Wills, Revocable/Irrevocable Trusts
Assist with trust administration and probate proceedings
Maintain strong, long-term client relationships through clear communication and thoughtful counsel
Handle all aspects of probate and estate administration, including intestate and testate proceedings
Prepare and file petitions, inventories, accountings, and other probate court documents
Represent personal representatives, executors, trustees, and beneficiaries
Guide clients through probate processes with sensitivity and professionalism
Manage court appearances and communications with judges, clerks, and opposing counsel
Collaborate with estate planning attorneys and paralegals on related matters
Identify and resolve estate and fiduciary tax issues
Stay informed of changes in estate, tax, and probate law relevant to client matters
Qualifications
3–7 years of experience in estate planning and/or probate law
J.D. from an accredited law school
Strong knowledge of estate planning tools, techniques, and tax implications
Exceptional drafting, research, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple matters with attention to detail and deadlines
Active bar membership required in South Dakota but preferred in more of the following, Nebraska and/or Iowa
