Responsibilities Safety/Security . Provide direct care, safety, security and supervision of adjudicated and/or pre-adjudicated youth in a locked setting. Enforce security rules, supervise daily living and leisure activities, orient youth to unit rules and routines, and intervene in volatile situations. Provide immediate crisis intervention and use de-escalation skills. Monitor youth movement, escort/transport as needed, conduct searches, and ensure searches are performed appropriately and safely. Adhere to suicide precaution monitoring (SPM) and related policies. Monitor medical watches and enforce behavioral management and safety plans. Maintain professional boundaries.
Lead Worker Duties (as Assigned/Required) . Coach, mentor and model adherence to policy; provide shift briefing; oversee implementation of SPM, SMP, Seclusion, and Safety Plans; identify milieu concerns and provide solutions; review and intervene in minor/major rule violations; participate in disciplinary processes and ensure due process; supervise facility safety and sanitation; oversee after-hours medication administration; coordinate post-incident processes and incident reporting; manage transport and meals as needed; ensure PREA standards are upheld.
Programming . Implement and follow the facility behavioral management program; conduct psycho-educational groups; monitor and document youth behaviors; reinforce positive behavior, program expectations, and restorative justice principles; support educational and recreational programming; orient newly admitted youth within 24 hours; provide support to youth in meeting presenting needs.
Documentation/Recording and Reporting . Document observations of youth behavior and responses to programs; complete searches, daily logs, SPM/SMP status, and incident reports; maintain youth files and TRAILS database entries; ensure proper documentation of meals, property, and medical actions; report incidents and safeguard information per policy.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications . High school diploma or GED. One (1) year of professional experience in a related field. Corrections-related experience defined as custody/control of detained/adjudicated youth or POST-certified/military law enforcement experience. Additional education substitutes for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications . Admissions and Control training; experience with adjudicated/detained youth in secure facilities; program/project development experience; self-motivated, team oriented, detail-focused; trainer certification; supervisory/leadership experience; strong critical thinking; Google Suite proficiency; relevant degree.
Conditions of Employment Full background checks, driver license required, age 21+, no felony or domestic violence history. Shifts are 24/7; travel may be required. Completion of DYS Pre-service Training and ongoing mandatory training. Disclosure of prior state terminations or resignations; Diana Screen administered for positions of trust with minors.
