Overview
Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. Duties
Occupies a supervisory position involving the direction of a shift, consisting of correctional officers assigned to various posts and/or programs. Responsible for carrying out the directions of the Captain relative to planning, directing and administering inmate programs, activities, work, recreational pursuits and directing and managing staff and inmates during a crisis situation. Serves as a direct liaison between the Captain and the correctional officers, and is responsible for the conduct, morale, performance and training of the correctional officer complement. Responsible for security of the special housing unit and the safe, secure housing of all inmates within the unit. Responsible for maintaining and documenting the various programs within the unit, i.e. feeding, recreation, unit sanitation, personal hygiene and medical. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. Requirements

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders. Experience preparing quarterly assignment rosters. Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution. Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time spent in activities. Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application. Education

In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a Bureau of Prisons institution. The representative rate for this position is $81,331 per annum ($38.97 per hour). Special Conditions of Employment: Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period. The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation. Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to NCIC and credit checks. Applicants not currently working in an institution may need to confirm firearms eligibility. The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons HR servicing office. The assessment must be completed within 70 minutes with a passing score of 68. Training requirements include successful completion of the Introduction to Correctional Techniques course in Glynco, Georgia. Other procedural details include required proof of residence, potential for additional selections within the life of the certificate, and possible single-group review by the selecting official.
