Description
The Laboratory Technician performs standardized electrical testing on low and medium voltage products, documenting results in compliance with certification standards. The role involves analyzing test sequences, maintaining and upgrading lab equipment, and ensuring adherence to quality and safety procedures. The technician will provide technical guidance, training, and support to team members, contributing to continuous improvement and the overall reliability of electrical products.
Key Job Accountabilities
Performs Standardized electrical testing-including temperature, short circuit, mechanical endurance, electrical endurance, and environmental tests-per UL, CSA, and other applicable certification bodies under the direction of the Laboratory Team Lead.
Selects and Operates Test equipment and software as required; designs and tests sequences of test programs, creates and updates test instructions and procedures, and documents results with accurate and detailed reports on product performance.
Analyzes Test sequences for potential improvements and implements or initiates corrective actions to ensure compliance, efficiency, and reliability.
Trains and Directs Cross-trains and provides direction to personnel in related job functions to ensure knowledge transfer and alignment with established processes.
Maintains Laboratory equipment and ensures compliance with applicable quality system processes, including ISO and other documentation standards, while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
Travels As needed within the United States to perform product testing in external laboratories and complete other assignments as directed by management.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications 2-year AAS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Engineering field
2+ years of experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
Knowledge of National and International standards (UL, CSA, IEC) as required by testing
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic PC programming
Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. permanently without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years of experience in the electrical field
Hands-on experience with low/medium voltage switchgear, power controls, and power distribution
Experience with circuit breakers and wiring (residential to industrial, up to 6000A)
Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 documentation requirements
LabVIEW programming experience
PLC programming with Simatic and LOGO
Experience using thermocouples
