Overview The County of San Diego has immediate vacancies for Senior Accountant. Senior Accountants are responsible for performing accounting or auditing duties involving financial statements, records, and reports, and may also supervise the accounting work for a small department or a division/section/unit in larger County departments. Under general direction, this class provides technical guidance and leadership to others performing clerical, paraprofessional, and/or professional accounting work, and is responsible for the most difficult accounting projects involving the analysis of budgetary, revenue, cost, and other financial records.

There are current vacancies located in the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk (ARCC) Department and in the Parks and Recreation Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies that may arise in various County of San Diego departments.

Hiring Process

Job offers for selected candidates will be made shortly after the interview process is completed. Candidates should be prepared to immediately complete background paperwork, upon receipt of a job offer.

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.

Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.

Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of background and Medical Screening, if applicable, or other mutually agreed upon date.

If you are not selected for this interview process, you may have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting or a closely related field such as finance, business administration, or economics, with at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting from among the following courses: Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Fund Accounting, Cost Accounting, or Auditing; AND

At least three (3) years of professional accounting experience.

NOTE:

A California CPA Certificate will be considered as meeting the education requirement. A master’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

Condition of Employment As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Evaluation The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
