About the Role
We are seeking a motivated
Electrical Engineer I
to join the Facilities Projects Team at Newport News Shipbuilding. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate to gain hands‑on experience in infrastructure design, construction projects, and project lifecycle management in a world‑class defense manufacturing environment.
As part of this team, you’ll support end‑to‑end project execution—from concept and feasibility through construction, commissioning, and close‑out.
Key Responsibilities
Research, design, and test electrical systems, components, and equipment.
Develop project plans including scope, budget, schedule, risk assessments, and justification.
Collaborate with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to support facility infrastructure projects.
Conduct feasibility studies and develop High‑Level Feasibility Estimates (HLFEs).
Review designs for performance, quality, and compliance with industry standards.
Ensure all projects meet local, state, and federal regulations.
Support financial and scheduling aspects including budgeting, progress tracking, and contractor payments.
Drive project execution with a strong focus on safety, quality, and successful delivery.
Qualifications
✅ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (from an ABET‑accredited program)
✅ Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
✅ Ability to work on multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, technical environment
✅ Interest in electrical systems and facilities infrastructure
