Overview
Great Lakes Ace Hardware is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operations of a high‑performance retail store. The General Manager will maximize sales and profitability, manage expenses, ensure outstanding customer service, and develop and mentor a high‑performing management team.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Drive store sales by acknowledging every customer, meeting project needs, and resolving concerns swiftly. Follow the Ace Helpful 101 S.A.L.E.S. process.
- Financial Management: Control operating costs, analyze sales trends, implement plans to meet or exceed goals, and review and address sales reports and P&L concerns with District Manager. Maintain payroll budget alignment and cash control procedures.
- Compliance & Policies: Ensure adherence to all company policies, complete paperwork timely, and maintain accurate inventory and loss prevention control.
- Merchandising: Keep merchandise stocked, displayed, and presented according to corporate guidelines across all departments.
- Associate Development: Hire, train, and develop retail staff, provide performance feedback, and delegate responsibilities to empower associates.
- Communication & Appearance: Conduct daily huddles and quarterly store meetings, maintain a clean, safe store environment, and uphold a positive frontline image.
- Attendance & Schedule: Provide consistent attendance and fulfill a rotating schedule that includes weekends.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise up to 20 associates, handle hiring, training, performance appraisal, and disciplinary actions, and resolve workplace complaints.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of related management experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Strong communication skills – oral and written.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and retail systems such as Ace Net and Epicor.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents and procedure manuals.
- Strong arithmetic skills, including calculations related to discounts, percentages, and basic budgeting.
- Problem‑solving and reasoning abilities, with experience interpreting complex instructions.
- Physical ability to walk, lift up to 50 lb, and use hands to handle tools and objects.
Compensation & Benefits
$52,000 – $70,000 annually, depending on experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, and employee discount programs. Additional incentive details available at the company website.
