Public Relations And Marketing Assistant
The City of Clovis, California, is seeking a Public Relations and Marketing Assistant to assist with the city's public relations, media relations, marketing, and advertising efforts. This position will perform a variety of communications and digital media duties, respond to requests and inquiries, and perform related work as required. Positions in this class work to support the city's public relations, media relations, marketing, and advertising efforts by creating digital media content, writing copy, posting to social media, and coordinating informational and outreach campaigns as assigned. Incumbents work under the guidance of the City's Communications and Marketing Analyst. Incumbents receive thorough instructions when tasks are initially assigned. Incumbents are expected to refer any variation in work to the supervisor for instructions. Work is reviewed frequently by the Communications and Marketing Analyst; Economic Development, Housing and Communications Director; and various city department representatives while in progress and upon completion. Assist with the creation of media and public information materials to promote, support, and inform the public of the City's policy priorities, initiatives, and events; produce video and photo content, including shooting and editing; design graphics and create informational materials for print, web, and social media content; assist with writing, proofreading, and editing content for web, social media, newsletters, and other communication mediums to increase public engagement, awareness, and education of residents, business partners, media, and other stakeholders; establish and maintain positive working relationships with City employees and the public; communicate and respond to inquiries from the public via social media and email; assist in the coordination and creation of internal and external communications for media relations, public relations, marketing, and advertising of city messages, services, and news; assist with website and online calendar updates; participate in the development, implementation, and promotion of public events; assist city departments and divisions with community outreach and a variety of communication needs including but not limited to the items listed above; and perform other work as assigned. License required: Possession of a valid California driver's license and a good driving record. Education and experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Film, Graphic Design, or a closely related field. And two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in municipal government. Knowledge of multimedia production software and tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Canva); photography, video shooting, lighting, audio recording, and editing techniques; graphic design principles including layout, typography, branding, and visual storytelling; social media formats and video optimization for online platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc; basic troubleshooting of AV equipment and familiarity with live-streaming platforms; accessibility compliance standards for visual and audio content; basic principles and practices of mass communication, digital and social media marketing, graphic design, and video recording and audio editing; geography of the city of Clovis; English usage, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to plan, record, and edit engaging multimedia content, including photos, videos, and graphics; operate and maintain professional A/V equipment (cameras, lighting, teleprompters, microphones, soundboards); use editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Audition, After Effects, or similar); write scripts and develop storyboards to support message clarity and visual storytelling; organize and archive multimedia assets; manage content libraries for efficiency and access; set up and troubleshoot live productions including public meetings and community events; manage multiple multimedia projects and meet tight deadlines; collaborate with staff and external stakeholders across departments and community partners; write content for website, social media, news releases; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relations with City staff and the general public; operate a vehicle, observing legal and defensive driving practices; relate and communicate to the public with courteous behavior and professional demeanor; engage and communicate with the media over email, text, social media, and in person; work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Physical demands and working conditions: Strength: Light work-lifting, carrying, and/or pushing 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; work is primarily sedentary; incumbent may be required to attend periodic evening meetings. Incumbent may be required to attend periodic evening or weekend meetings or events. Incumbent may be required to travel within and out of the City to attend meetings.
