Correctional Nurse I/II

The County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department is actively recruiting for temporary Correctional Nurses I/II to work in Probation's Juvenile Services Center (JSC). This is a continuous recruitment and will remain open until filled. Typical tasks include RN sick calls, assessing youth, coordinating care with health care providers in the community, giving medications, attending emergency situations upon request by Probation Officers or other emergencies. In addition, people in this position will be responsible for medically clearing youth for booking, and transcribing medical orders as prescribed. The Juvenile Hall Medical Staff work a combination of 10 and 6-hour shifts divided between 7 AM and roughly 10:30 PM. Incumbents will also be expected to assist with keeping the medical clinic staffed 7 days per week during these hours (including weekends and holidays). Temp/Per diem staff are expected to fill a minimum of 1-2 shifts per month. Temporary Correctional Nurses are eligible to receive differential pay for hours worked in the JSC facility ($2 per hour) and evening differential (5%). Correctional Nurse I is part of a career series for Correctional Nurse I, Correctional Nurse II and Correctional Nurse Supervisor. Classes in this series provide professional nursing care for inmates at the San Luis Obispo Juvenile Services Center in accordance with California Administrative Code Title 15 and Health Agency requirements; and do other related work as required. In addition to the minimum qualifications and licensure, the ideal candidate will have experience participating in any of the above tasks and have experience working in a juvenile service center, correctional facility, or with at risk youth. Minimum Qualifications: Correctional Nurse I: No experience required. Correctional Nurse II: Three years of professional nursing experience.
