Position Details

- Location: Rancho Cucamonga, CA and surrounding area
- Schedule: 6 AM – 6 PM, Mon – Fri (may be asked to cover Saturday shift). 8‑hour shifts; earliest start 6 AM or latest end 6 PM.

- Licenses: CA State Phlebotomy License required; valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed
- Float coverage: PSC locations in Upland, CA and Fontana, CA, and other regions as needed
Summary
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities
- Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously; collect other specimen types (e.g., urine, fecal) as required
- Demonstrate proper technique with straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Fully understand all physicians' orders; match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
- Package specimens for transport; store samples at required temperature; follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual departmental trainings
- Answer telephone calls; read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid phlebotomy certification for the state where employed
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting
- Experience with pediatric and geriatric hard‑stick draws required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience
