Position Information
Job Title Maintenance Mechanic II
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing intermediate-level maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical work, HVAC maintenance, carpentry, and lock/key repair. The position also includes preventative maintenance on building systems, vehicles, and equipment. The technician must be able to diagnose and repair a wide variety of facility issues and is subject to being recalled to campus for after-hours work during the week and on weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform plumbing duties including welding, soldering, cutting, threading, and gluing.
Replace and repair lights, fixtures, switches, receptacles, fuses, contactors, ballasts, motors, and pumps.
Perform preventative maintenance and diagnostics on HVAC equipment.
Perform simple carpentry construction, including layout and design.
Repair locks, keys, doors, and windows.
Work with hand tools, power tools, torches, and electrical testing equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on machinery, vehicles, and landscape equipment.
Complete work orders, equipment logs, and other required documentation.
Respond to after-hours and weekend campus emergencies as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
High school diploma or GED required. Must hold a valid Texas Driver's License.
Experience
Additional technical training or relevant certifications preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of desktop computers and current software programs.
Familiarity with multi-line phone systems.
Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, carpentry, and lock/key repair. Strong interpersonal skills with excellent customer service orientation.
Ability to work effectively, diplomatically, and professionally with a diverse community.
Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to exercise judgment in establishing and executing priorities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
Ability to complete accurate documentation and maintain records.
Problem-solving skills for addressing practical challenges with limited standardization.
Mathematical skills for basic calculations, ratios, and interpreting graphs.
Ability to maintain a neat, safe, and clean workspace.
Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
