Join Walmart’s Data and Technology team as Group Director and Senior Lead Counsel, Tech and Data, Regulatory! This is an exciting opportunity to make a global impact while working on high‑impact privacy challenges at scale.
If you are an experienced and collaborative legal leader to lead strategic management and oversight of our enterprise privacy legal team, which supports a broad and dynamic portfolio, this role is for you.
You will manage a team of skilled attorneys—counsel, senior counsel, and lead counsel—who advise on enterprise‑wide privacy matters spanning U.S. state privacy laws, international regulations, GenAI, biometrics, e‑commerce marketplaces, Walmart subsidiaries, financial services, marketing and subscription services, and digital services.
This is a leadership position for a seasoned attorney who brings strong general privacy law experience, a passion for developing legal talent, and the ability to deliver practical, solutions‑oriented advice across a complex, fast‑paced organization. Subject matter expertise in every portfolio area is not required; instead, you will serve as a leader who can effectively guide and empower your team, manage risk, and provide strategic direction to support business goals.
What you’ll do:
Lead and manage a team of privacy‑focused counsel, senior counsel, and lead counsel positions, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development.
Oversee and coordinate the delivery of enterprise privacy legal advice across diverse portfolios.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders, translating complex legal concepts into actionable business strategies.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with stakeholders in product, engineering, compliance, government affairs, and marketing to support privacy‑by‑design initiatives.
Support the development and implementation of enterprise privacy governance and compliance frameworks.
Monitor global privacy and data protection developments and guide the team in adapting to evolving legal landscapes.
Engage in high‑priority strategic initiatives, including GenAI integration, biometric data governance, and digital service innovations.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the legal team and across the enterprise.
What you’ll bring:
Juris Doctor (J.D.), license to practice law and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in privacy and data protection law.
Proven leadership experience managing and developing other attorneys.
Broad understanding of global privacy regulations and emerging technologies.
Ability to manage complex, high‑stakes matters and balance legal risk with business objectives.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated ability to nimbly navigate in a dynamic, ever‑changing environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Law degree from an accredited law school and 7 years’ experience in law.
License to practice law in at least one state.
4 years’ experience leading cross‑functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in global privacy regulations and emerging technologies.
Discretionary leadership experience and subject‑matter expertise across privacy portfolios.
Demonstrated ability in dynamic, ever‑changing environments.

Benefits: Annual salary range: $195,000 – $370,000.
Additional compensation: annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
