Recreation Leader I-III (After School Program/Sports Programs)
The City of Healdsburg is looking for enthusiastic Recreation Leaders to create fun, meaningful, and engaging experiences for our community. We are currently hiring for Recreation Leader I-III positions within our Community Services Department. These roles support a variety of programs, including after‑school activities and youth sports, while making a positive impact in the lives of local families.
Working Hours After School Program: Monday‑Friday, 2pm – 6pm Sports: Shifts vary between 5:30pm – 10:00pm
Compensation Recreation Leaders earn a salary range of $17.24 – $21.00 per hour. This is a non‑benefited, part‑time position, no more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

About the Recreation Leader I‑III Position Under general direction, provides support to recreation programming and facility staff in the operations of assigned recreation facilities and programs. The Recreation Leader works under direction from a Recreation Coordinator.
Examples of Duties
Assist general public in a variety of recreation programs
Answer phones and respond to public inquiries regarding recreation programs and facilities
Process registration forms; take payments and complete receipts
Provide support to recreation program coordination staff
Ensure compliance with applicable City and County laws and ordinances, and City policies and procedures
Perform related work as assigned
Additional tasks may include, but are not limited to:
Complete daily logs of recreation center activities; monitor room set‑up and routine maintenance of facilities during evening and weekend hours
Keep accurate records of attendance at recreation programs or events
Assist in the promotion of recreation activities through a variety of promotional media
Assist in setting up and taking down furniture and equipment
Collect and record daily revenues; perform related duties as assigned
Assist in coordination of maintenance and custodial activities
Typical Qualifications Knowledge of:
Customer service principles
Problem‑solving skills
Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Computer applications: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Internet
Standard office practices and procedures
Good communication and organizational skills
Ability To:
Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
Follow written and oral directions
Demonstrate attention to detail
Monitor observance of laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and safety and health standards
Apply common sense and good judgment to difficult or unusual situations
Exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with people
Work effectively with a minimum of direct supervision
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Perform basic arithmetic
Operate a computer terminal
Education and Experience Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable. Typical pathways include:
High school diploma or equivalent
Supplemental college‑level coursework in recreation, physical education, public administration, or a closely related field is highly desirable
No professional experience required for Recreation Leader I
Equivalents: 1,000 hours of responsible experience for Leader II; two years of responsible experience for Leader III
Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license. Recreation leaders working with youth groups must be certified free of communicable tuberculosis, with proof of examination within the past two years; recertification on a four‑year cycle.
Incumbents must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
