GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the direction of the AS/SDSU Competitive Sports Coordinator, the Assistant Coach for the rowing team will assist the head coach with planning and administration; design and implementation of novice and varsity practice schedules and training schemes; recruitment and retention efforts; and promotion and marketing of the rowing program. The position averages 10-15 hours per week and requires availability for morning, evening, and weekend hours, including home and away competitions. The Rowing Assistant Coach enforces rules, policies, and procedures as outlined in the Sport Club Handbook and other governing policies. The successful candidate will comply with policies established by Associated Students/SDSU, the Sport Club Program, the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA), and the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA), while serving as a positive role model for the program and SDSU. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Comply with all job expectations as outlined in the Associated Students/SDSU Sport Club Coaching Agreement Ensure individual and program compliance with policies and procedures of Associated Students/SDSU and Aztec Recreation Ensure safety of all team members, coaches and equipment is the top priority at all times Represent the team and Associated Students/SDSU in a professional manner at all times Work collaboratively with team officers, head coach, and administrators to develop and achieve program priorities Design and implement novice practice schedules and training schemes for both morning and afternoon practices Produce schedules and training schemes in a timely manner Ensure that all coaches\' launches are ready for use prior to the beginning of practice Ensure scheduled practices begin and end on time Coordinate dual practices and meets with coaches from other programs Transport necessary equipment to and from events Assist with equipment maintenance and repairs Assist with achieving team recruiting goals Support fundraising efforts for ongoing operation of the rowing program Maintain the team\'s positive community standing Assist with the coordination of special events with alumni and team (e.g., banquets, boat christenings) Represent the team in regional or national meetings with other coaches or organizations Performs other duties as assigned Customer Service and Collaboration

Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departments Represents the team and Associated Students/SDSU in a professional manner at all times Maintains positive and effective working relationships with all athletes and staff Safety

Ensures operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with safety policies Adheres to Associated Students\' Code of Safe Practices Reports accidents to supervisor and follows documentation requirements Reports maintenance problems and unsafe equipment immediately Qualifications

Minimum & Preferred Requirements Education

Bachelor\'s Degree preferred Experience

Proficient knowledge of Aztec Recreation programs, facilities, and policies required Knowledge of Aztec Recreation website required Knowledge and/or participation in Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferred At least 4 years of competitive rowing experience Preferred experience coaching rowing, especially teaching novice rowers Experience with high performing teams and athletes License & Certification

American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED/First Aid Certification with in-person skills session Valid California Driver\'s License and proof of automobile insurance required at time of hiring or within 30 days of start date Trainings

Anti-Harassment training (must be completed within 30 days of hire) Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training (completed within 30 days of hire) Gender Awareness Training (completed within 30 days of hire) California Defensive Driving Course Mission Bay Aquatic Center California Boating Safety Course Attend all mandatory Aztec Recreation/Sport Club/MBAC Staff meetings and trainings as directed PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Maintain confidentiality where applicable Maintain positive working relationships with staff and athletes Exercise tact and sound professional judgment Work well with different work styles Strong organizational skills Follow oral and written directions and see projects through to completion Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations of Associated Students/SDSU, Aztec Recreation and sport leagues Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of rowing technique and competitive sports training, including fitness, conditioning, strength and power training Commitment to student success and ability to recruit, train, and evaluate collegiate student athletes Strong coaching background with emphasis on skill development and leadership Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with student athletes, team officers, coaches, administrators and alumni Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to handle difficult situations with patience and diplomacy Relationships

Position reports to the Competitive Sports Coordinator. Interactions may include Competitive Sport Student Leads, Athletic Trainers, MBAC Staff, and other Aztec Recreation office staff. Interactions with full-time staff within Aztec Recreation include the Recreation Director, MBAC Director, Associate Director of Programs, and Competitive Sport Supervisor. Work Environment

Physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, climbing, standing, and working in confined spaces; occasional lifting and moving of equipment may be required. Employment Category

This is a part-time hourly position starting at $20.00-$25.00 per hour; commensurate with experience. A background check and Live Scan must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered this position. A MVR/DMV record review is required for positions that drive university vehicles or transport participants.
