Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-focused
Quoting Estimator
to join our team. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of machining and manufacturing processes, and be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to prepare accurate, competitive quotes. This position requires excellent attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to work within deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Receive and interpret quote requests to determine if job is within the company’s capabilities and aligns appropriately with the organization.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications for purposes of analyzing appropriate materials, tooling, tolerances, and labor process requirements to prepare accurate job quotes.
Determine manufacturing steps, estimate labor hours, and calculate material and equipment costs for in-house production and outside service’s needs.
Communicate with vendors and suppliers to obtain accurate material and service pricing. Maintain a database of historical costs and vendor pricing for future reference.
Collaborate with necessary production work centers and area managers in an efficient manner to ensure quotes are realistic and achievable.
Utilize estimating software to ensure quotes are completed and submitted to potential customers in a timely manner.
Follow up with customers regarding submitted quotes and address any questions, clarification of project requirements, or changes.
Evaluate shop workload to establish a realistic timeline for production and delivery of accepted quotes.
Qualifications
Previous experience in a machine shop, manufacturing environment, or as a machinist is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of machining processes (CNC and manual), welding, forming, cutting, and finishing.
Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical documents.
Good mechanical problem-solving skills with the aptitude to visualize/understand job scope.
Excellent math skills, attention to detail, ability to work with others, and basic mechanical aptitude.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple quotes at once.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and ERP/estimating software such as JobBoss would be beneficial.
This position will primarily be office-based with occasional visits to the shop floor to verify processes or gather information for estimates. Magna Machine & Tool is a family-oriented work environment and offers supportive team collaboration.
