Description Of Work The Accountant I position in the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Business Office performs professional accounting work requiring the application of accounting principles and analytical techniques to the review, analysis, and reporting of financial data. This position ensures compliance with state and federal fiscal regulations and supports the SBI’s mission by maintaining accurate financial records and sound fiscal controls. Job responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Provide assistance and coding for appropriate accounts and funding sources;
Process and review accounting transactions in compliance with state fiscal policies and procedures;
Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts and journal entries;
Monitor budgets, expenditures, and encumbrances to ensure appropriate fund utilization;
P-Card support and reconciliation;
Support audit preparation and respond to inquiries from auditors and management;
Collaborate with internal divisions, external agencies, and vendors to ensure timely and accurate financial operations;
Maintain internal controls and documentation to ensure fiscal accountability and data integrity;
Preparation and analysis of ad hoc reports.
Salary Range $48,222 - $63,505
Management Preferences
Knowledge of accounting theories and/or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience using the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS), and/or another electronic accounting system(s).
Knowledge of governmental accounting methods, procedures, financial practices and/or knowledge of laws/regulations relating to governmental accounting.
Experience analyzing and/or correcting financial accounting errors.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Benefits This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) with benefits.
