GBLS seeks a full-time attorney to join our Immigration Unit (IU) as part of the Massachusetts Access to Counsel Initiative (MACI). The attorney will primarily represent non-detained and detained clients in removal and bond proceedings before the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, related proceedings before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and, when appropriate, in Federal Court. Please note that this position is currently funded for seven months, with a strong likelihood of continued funding thereafter, though continuation is not guaranteed. Responsibilities

Managing a full immigration caseload and providing direct and appellate representation and assistance to immigrants in removal and bond proceedings at EOIR, the BIA and federal court, where applicable; Participating actively in community and legal coalitions to respond to emerging and emergency legal needs in the immigrant community; Participating in ongoing training provided through MACI; Participating in regularly scheduled MACI team meetings to discuss individual cases, systemic concerns, and other topics as determined by supervisors; Assisting with general administrative tasks, and grant reporting as appropriate. Other duties as assigned Qualifications

This position is for an attorney with 0 to 4 years of legal experience. Massachusetts bar admission required. Prior experience in immigration law, particularly removal defense, is strongly preferred. Candidate must be willing and able to represent clients in ICE detention and removal proceedings. We are looking for a candidate who takes initiative, is comfortable working with clients from a wide range of backgrounds, and enjoys collaborating with team members and outside organizations/coalitions. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese is preferred but not required.
