$120,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr Summary
Seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations across multiple states and ensure compliance with all applicable wage, tax, and reporting requirements. This role provides the opportunity to take ownership of payroll strategy, compliance, and process optimization while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in payroll systems, compliance management, and process automation — offering the chance to shape efficient, compliant, and employee‑focused payroll practices. Responsibilities
Manage and process multi‑state payroll operations in accordance with U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as international regulations. Serve as the primary expert on payroll compliance, staying ahead of legislative updates and implementing necessary changes. Collaborate with the Benefits team to oversee payroll‑related deductions, audits, and leave of absence tracking initiatives. Lead and document payroll audits, supporting external auditors with required materials and reconciliations. Support annual Workers’ Compensation audits and policy renewals. Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls. Identify and execute automation opportunities to improve accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of payroll operations. Partner with system and HR technology teams to test and validate configuration or system updates. Manage relationships with payroll service providers and vendors to ensure high‑quality service and system reliability. Oversee and approve all bonus runs, quarterly and annual filings, and related documentation (e.g., W‑2s, W‑3s, 940s, 941s, state filings). Act as the point of escalation for complex payroll issues, employee concerns, and compliance matters. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. 7+ years of experience in multi‑state payroll administration with leadership or management responsibilities. In‑depth knowledge of payroll compliance, tax laws, and reporting requirements. Experience with major payroll platforms such as Paylocity, ADP, or similar systems. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with an ability to resolve complex issues efficiently. Demonstrated ability to manage audits and maintain compliance with internal controls. High proficiency in Excel and payroll reporting tools. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus. Seniority level
