The Lead Psychiatrist performs highly advanced psychiatric work under direct supervision. Directs, oversees, and/or conducts examinations, diagnoses, and treatments. Provides leadership to ensure optimal quality psychiatric treatment services.

Responsibilities

Conduct psychiatric assessments and administer treatments and medications.

Direct staff and provide leadership to ensure quality psychiatric care.

Monitor trends, prepare reports, and recommend operational improvements.

Lead the patient’s recovery team and guide treatment plans.

Attend and participate in committees, meetings, and audits.

Perform patient reviews, medication reviews, and lab work reviews.

Develop personalized recovery plans and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Provide psychiatric coordination and consultation with Medical Director and other stakeholders.

Stay current with research and recommend changes in evaluation tools and protocols.

Provide staff guidance and training; visit supervisory roles for residency or advanced practice nurses if applicable.

Participate in disaster response, continuity of operations, and other on‑call needs.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attend work regularly and meet shift schedule demands, including rotating, overtime, and on‑call duties.

Utilize a multi‑disciplinary approach to complete psychiatric assessments.

Conduct clinics, reviews, and meetings; maintain accurate EHR documentation.

Develop, implement, and monitor psychiatric recovery plans.

Review and monitor system data and trends; drive quality improvement initiatives.

Maintain communication with the Medical Director and other staff.

Participate in mandatory training and travel to other facilities as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of general medicine, psychiatry, and evidence‑based care.

Proficiency with diagnostic tools, medication management, and electronic health records.

Ability to develop policies, supervise case histories, and interpret diagnoses.

Strong communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.

Understand and adhere to federal and state regulatory requirements.

Capability to organize and present information effectively.

Registrations, Licensure, & Certifications

Unrestricted medical doctor license in Texas.

Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Psychiatry (Texas).

Current DEA registration certificate.

NPI# registration and enrollment as a Medicaid & Medicare Part B provider.

Initial Screening Criteria

At least four (4) years of experience as a psychiatrist.

At least four (4) years of experience working with psychiatric patients.

Residency training completed.
