Tax Partner – New York Office
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Tax Partner to join their New York office. Their tax controversy and litigation team combines deep tax law expertise with exceptional litigation capabilities, providing clients with the highest caliber of service. They represent large corporations and high-net-worth individuals nationwide, navigating complex tax disputes with the IRS, the Department of Justice, and state and federal courts.
Pay Range $500,000.00/yr - $1,000,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Represent clients in complex tax controversies before the IRS, including Examination, Appeals, and National Office, as well as in the Tax Court, Court of Federal Claims, federal district courts, courts of appeals, and state taxing authorities.
Lead negotiations and settlements in both non-docketed and docketed tax cases.
Prepare detailed, persuasive responses to IRS proposed adjustments and written protests for cases advancing to Appeals.
Advise clients on pre-filing agreements, mediations, and complex administrative settlements.
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, partnering with in-house tax teams to analyze issues, develop practical solutions, and prevent future problems.
Advocate for clients in appellate proceedings when administrative resolution is not achievable, including trial representation of large, sophisticated tax controversies.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the New York Bar.
Significant experience in tax controversy and litigation, including administrative negotiation and courtroom advocacy.
Deep understanding of federal and state tax law and strong analytical, writing, and negotiation skills.
Proven record of managing high‑value, complex tax disputes and achieving favourable outcomes for clients.
Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams, providing strategic, pragmatic advice.
