Salary Range: $37,782 – $66,120
Work Schedule: Full‑time (40 hrs/week); shift work, weekends, holidays.
About The Department The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It safeguards citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation, and is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction in North Carolina. The department includes state prisons, community supervision, and several administrative divisions.
Responsibilities
Provide first‑line supervision for Correctional Officer II’s; conduct shift line‑up, assign posts, and inspect personnel for physical and mental readiness.
Maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and other administrative forms.
Account for personnel and funds to ensure equipment readiness.
Assign lower‑level custody staff to posts, oversee officer performance, and maintain custody, security, and offender welfare.
Arrange work schedules and implement operational procedures, ensuring policy compliance.
Qualifications
Documented knowledge of prison policy, procedures, and/or facility operations.
Minimum education and experience listed below as management preferences.
Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or GED and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
