About the NC Department of Adult Correction:
The department is one of the largest state agencies, employing over 14,000 people. It safeguards and preserves lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation, and oversees the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Operations include state prisons, healthcare, facility operations, and probation/parole officers. Other divisions comprise Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations, and the Post‑Release Supervision & Parole Commission.
Responsibilities
Conduct shift line‑up, assign shifts, and inspect personnel to ensure they are physically and mentally capable of their posts.
Maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Account for persons and verify that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
Rotate and assign duties within the defined level of work.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities / Management Preferences
Knowledge of Facility Operations.
Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures.
Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School or GED diploma and 2½ years of experience as a Correctional Officer.
Or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer II.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
