Position Summary The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in applied aquaculture and fish health at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The appointment is a 9‑month academic year with responsibilities in outreach, instruction, research, and service. Successful candidates will establish interdisciplinary collaborations within the Warnell School and across the UGA campus.

Responsibilities

Outreach (30%) : Develop educational activities and programs that address stakeholder needs (state/federal agencies, industry professionals, Extension personnel). Use creative delivery strategies (face‑to‑face, online, video, podcasts) and provide individual consultations.

Applied Research (30%) : Build an externally funded, nationally/internationally recognized program in aquaculture and aquatic animal health. Provide technical assistance to stakeholders and collaborate with industry, government, and Extension.

Teaching (35%) : Advise undergraduate and graduate students and teach two courses per academic year—one in Aquaculture and one in a related area such as aquatic/fish disease. Contribute to the Warnell School’s online Master of Natural Resources degree (launching 2026).

Professional Service (5%) : Serve on School/University committees and actively participate in professional and scientific societies.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

(must be Ph.D. by August 2026 with emphasis on aquatic animal health, commercial aquaculture production, sustainable aquaculture systems, or a closely related discipline.)

Evidence of scholarship through peer‑reviewed publications.

Ability to attract and manage extramural funding.

Potential for outreach productivity and interest in extension education, applied research reporting, and non‑traditional or online instruction.

Willingness to mentor students and collaborate with public and private partners.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with modern, innovative extension/outreach tools.

Ability to integrate science and stakeholder values into research.

Applied research that impacts industrial aquaculture at large spatial scales.

Expertise specifically in aquatic animal health, commercial aquaculture production, sustainable aquaculture systems, or a closely related discipline.

Additional Requirements Appointment to Associate Professor requires a record consistent with promotion, including strong evidence of regional/national authority, external funding, and teaching excellence. Service experience at the Associate Professor level for 1–2 years is preferred.

Physical Demands No special physical demands. The position requires driving, no financial control, no P‑Card requirement, and is not a position of trust.
