The Warnell School is comprised of 68 faculty, 100 support staff, 265 undergraduates, and 240 graduate students ( www.warnell.uga.edu ).
The school offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Forest Resources, Master of Natural Resources, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the areas of Forestry; Fisheries & Wildlife; Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management; and Natural Resource Management & Sustainability.
The school manages over 17,000 acres of forestland across the state in support of its teaching, outreach, and research missions.
Position Summary The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position in applied aquaculture and/or fish health at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with outreach, instruction, research, and university and professional service expectations as part of a 9‑month appointment.
Successful candidates will be expected to establish interdisciplinary collaborations in outreach, teaching, and research with faculty in the Warnell School and across campus.
Responsibilities
Outreach (30 %):
Develop educational activities and programs addressing the needs of stakeholders (state and federal agencies, aquatic industry professionals, county extension personnel) in Georgia and beyond, using creative and innovative delivery strategies (face‑to‑face, online, video‑based, podcasts, etc.) and one‑on‑one consultations.
Applied Research (30 %):
Develop an externally funded, nationally/internationally recognized program in Aquaculture and Aquatic Animal Health; provide specialized knowledge to stakeholders; interact with private landowners, industry professionals, state and federal agencies, and Extension professionals.
Teaching (35 %):
Advise undergraduate and graduate students and teach two courses per academic year; one course in Aquaculture and one in a related area.
Contribute to the Warnell School’s online Master of Natural Resources degree (launching in 2026).
Professional Service (5 %):
Serve on School/University committees and participate in professional/scientific societies.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a PhD before August 2026 with an emphasis on aquatic animal health, commercial aquaculture production, sustainable aquaculture systems, or a closely related discipline.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Required:
Clear evidence of scholarship through peer‑reviewed publications and/or technical publications; ability to attract extramural funding; potential for outreach productivity; interest in extension education, applied research, and non‑traditional or online instruction; willingness to work with public and private partners, Extension professionals, and students.
Preferred:
Experience with modern, innovative outreach/outreach tools; integration of science and stakeholder values into research; applied research affecting industrial aquaculture at large spatial scales; expertise in applied aquaculture areas such as aquatic animal health, commercial aquaculture production, and sustainable aquaculture systems.
Additional Requirements Appointment to Associate Professor requires a record consistent with promotion to Associate Professor at the Warnell School, such as strong evidence of emerging stature as a regional/national authority, acquiring and administering external funding, and excellence in teaching and mentoring.
Service at the Associate Professor level for 1–2 years is preferred for this rank.
