Assistant/Associate Professor--Aquaculture and Fish Health Specialist
Posting Number F2548P – The University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position in applied aquaculture and/or fish health at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position is a 9‑month appointment with a start date of August 1, 2026 (negotiable).
Position Summary The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (Warnell School) seeks a scholar who will establish interdisciplinary collaborations in outreach, instruction, research, and university and professional service. Outreach, applied research, teaching, and professional service activities will be weighted at approximately 30%, 30%, 35%, and 5% respectively.
Responsibilities
Outreach (30%) – Develop educational activities and programs that address the needs of stakeholders such as state and federal agencies, aquatic industry professionals, and extension personnel in Georgia and beyond. Apply creative, innovative delivery strategies (face‑to‑face, online, video‑based, podcasts, etc.) and provide individual, one‑on‑one technical assistance.
Applied Research (30%) – Develop an externally funded, nationally and internationally recognized program in aquaculture and aquatic animal health. Provide specialized knowledge and technical assistance to stakeholders, including private landowners, industry professionals, and government agencies.
Teaching (35%) – Supervise undergraduate and graduate students and teach two courses per academic year; one course in aquaculture and one course in the candidate’s area of expertise (e.g., fish disease). Contribute to the Warnell School’s online Master of Natural Resources degree program (launching in 2026).
Professional Service (5%) – Serve on school and university committees and actively participate in professional scientific societies.
Qualifications
Ph.D. before August 2026 with emphasis on aquatic animal health, commercial aquaculture production, sustainable aquaculture systems, or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated scholarship through peer‑reviewed publications and/or technical publications and ability to attract extramural funding.
Evidence of emerging stature as a regional/national authority, strong external funding record, and excellence in teaching.
Potential for outreach productivity and interest in extension education, applied research, and non‑traditional or online instruction.
Willingness to mentor students and work closely with public and private partners and extension professionals.
Preferred:
Experience with modern extension/outreach tools, integration of science and stakeholder values, large‑scale industrial aquaculture research, and expertise in aquatic animal health or closely related areas.
