Job Overview The SR IT Systems Engineer leads the IT Systems team, administering, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise‑level systems such as SQL databases, Linux servers, Windows/VMware environments, and cloud infrastructure. The role collaborates with IT leadership to design scalable architectures, plans and leads IT infrastructure projects, mentors junior team members, and ensures system stability, performance, and security.

Responsibilities

Manage, monitor, and optimize SQL Server databases to maintain availability, performance, and data integrity.

Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for SQL and server environments.

Perform database upgrades, migrations, and security patching.

Manage Linux servers, ensuring system performance, uptime, and security.

Install, upgrade, patch, and configure software across platforms.

Automate tasks using shell scripting and other automation tools.

Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance.

Administer Windows server environments, including Active Directory and associated services.

Oversee VMware virtualization infrastructure to ensure efficient resource utilization and availability.

Perform system upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting across Windows and VMware platforms.

Manage cloud‑based environments (Azure, OCI, GCP, or AWS), ensuring scalability, performance, and security.

Design and advise on cloud architectures in Azure, GCP, AWS, and OCI.

Deploy and manage cloud services, including virtual machines, storage, and networking.

Collaborate on cloud migration strategies and implementations.

Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure costs and performance.

Serve as a subject‑matter expert across system administration disciplines.

Mentor and guide junior administrators to foster skill development.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design and implement IT solutions aligned with business goals.

Participate in incident management and root cause analysis for system outages.

Develop and maintain system documentation, including configuration details, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Provide after‑hours support for critical issues and scheduled maintenance when required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

7‑10 years of experience in systems administration across Windows/VMware, SQL, Linux, and cloud environments.

Proven expertise with Windows Server and VMware virtualization platforms.

Strong expertise in SQL Server administration, including performance tuning, backups, and migrations.

Experience managing Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu) and scripting automation.

Hands‑on experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as Microsoft Azure, OCI, GCP, or AWS.

Prior experience managing hybrid environments and migrations from on‑prem to cloud.

Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform) is a plus.

Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to mentor and collaborate effectively across teams.
