About the Institution Germanna Community College is a two‑year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. It provides quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford.

Responsibilities Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. The successful candidate will

Teach specific classes in Religion both in‑person and online.

Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.

Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.

Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.

Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.

Essential Functions Provide quality instruction by meeting assigned classes regularly, submitting required records and reports routinely, teaching prescribed courses of study with the established texts, and adhering to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Special Assignments The faculty member may be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. The position may also require travel to other college locations in the service region.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in Religion.

Ability to effectively teach classrooms and online.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Excellent oral/written communication skills.

Ability to use instructional technology.

Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.

Prior teaching experience.

Work experience in the field.

Experience with online teaching.

Substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments at a regionally accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

No prior experience required, but relevant teaching or field experience is advantageous.

Compensation & Availability Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer sessions. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

Location & Travel This position is located in Virginia. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate to ensure consistent, reliable attendance. No state vehicle operation required. May need travel to other college locations in the service region.
