Responsibilities
Provide customer assistance and handle cash register operations, including sales and monetary transactions, opening and closing procedures.
Maintain positive customer and employee relations; report problems or complaints immediately to the store manager.
Assist with inventory, display, merchandising, placement of stock on the sales floor, stock rotation, and markdowns.
Support picking, straightening, or arranging merchandise and perform housekeeping tasks (including restrooms) to maintain a neat, clean, and safe working environment.
Use proper handling techniques and equipment for safe merchandise handling.
Follow and enforce all store policies, procedures, and general company policies.
Identify potential damage, theft, or safety hazards and report observations immediately to the store manager.
Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Proficient in English language.
Retail sales and/or cash handling experience strongly desired.
No specific education or license required.
Equipment Used
Ten-key or calculator, telephone, personal computer, printer, fax machine, cash register, pushcarts, boxes, barrels, hand trucks, z-racks, clothing/display racks, mattress carts.
Skills & Aptitudes
Maintain self-control and effectively deal with the public while cooperating with co-workers.
Tactfully explain decisions or present information clearly regarding store policies.
Perform arithmetic and count money/change quickly and accurately.
Learn and perform opening/closing procedures, cash register operation, and related paperwork accurately and efficiently.
Coordinate hand-eye-foot movements to safely handle merchandise, minimizing damage and hazards.
Operate cash registers and count money/change rapidly.
Follow directions, procedures, and perform both repetitive and varied duties without losing composure or efficiency.
Communicate clearly in English.
Physical Demands
Fast work pace with constant standing and walking.
Light physical work, lifting up to 30 lbs and frequently lifting or carrying objects up to 10 lbs.
Use appropriate material handling equipment or co‑worker assistance for larger items.
Follow safety handling procedures.
Normal or corrected hearing, vision, and speech sufficient for required tasks.
