Remuneration: Level B from $127,947, Level C from $155,403 + 17% superannuation and annual leave loading
Location: Kensington Campus, Sydney, New South Wales (hybrid flexible working opportunities available)
About The Role We are seeking a dynamic legal practitioner or former practitioner with a strong commitment to shaping the next generation of lawyers. The Education Focused position sits within the School of Law, Society & Criminology in the Faculty of Law & Justice and will play a central role in delivering and coordinating the Practical Legal Training (PLT) core and elective courses. The role reports to the Head of School for Law, Society & Criminology and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver PLT courses and workshops to the general cohort and sponsored partnership cohort.
Integrate work‑integrated learning (WIL), AI‑enhanced practice tools and practitioner‑led mentoring into the curriculum.
Support students’ practical skill development, professional judgement and ethical awareness as they transition into the profession.
Collaborate with practitioner mentors and industry partners to enhance the quality of the PLT program.
Qualifications and Experience For Level B, the following qualifications and experience are required:
Tertiary qualifications in law, and admission as a legal practitioner in Australia, with 3‑5 years post‑admission experience in legal practice.
Evidence of teaching/practice experience in two or more disciplines (e.g. litigation, commercial & property practice, administrative law, family law, banking & finance, consumer law, employment law or criminal law).
Actively stay up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development.
Experience using practice technologies and online delivery methods.
Evidence of highly developed organisational skills and ability to deliver in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with students, practitioners and professional bodies.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring or supervising junior practitioners or law graduates and commitment to student wellbeing and helping graduates’ transition successfully into the profession.
Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
For Level C (in addition to the above), the following additional qualifications and experience are required:
Demonstrated success in initiating practice education development and improvement.
Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
Demonstrated ability to interact with profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
