Senior Business Development Manager, Late-Stage Private & Public Company Services
Fenwick is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to support the continued growth and market positioning of our late-stage private and public company practices. This role focuses on strengthening the visibility and integration of our Capital Markets, M&A, Litigation, and Regulatory practices as part of Fenwick’s full-service platform for technology and life sciences companies.
The Senior Manager will work closely with practice leadership and business development managers who lead day-to-day execution, helping to ensure the firm’s strengths in these areas are clearly conveyed to the market. They will develop and implement coordinated business plans, go-to-market strategies and visibility efforts across relevant practices, guide competitive research and market analysis to identify themes and opportunities for client engagement and growth, and collaborate with startup-focused teams to map client expansion opportunities.
This position can be based in any of our U.S. office locations and offers a hybrid work arrangement. In-office work frequency will be determined by business needs and department directives.
Job Description
Practice group support: Work with practice group leaders to assess BD needs, develop practice plans and budgets, contribute to key meetings and proactively identify cross-marketing opportunities.
Individual partner support: Meet with partners to develop and implement business plans and support BD activities, including identifying targets and pursuit strategies.
Idea generation: Initiate new tactics to improve the department’s BD services and the firm’s business development efforts.
Sales material messaging: Ensure sales materials, pitches and proposals highlight firm attributes and key practices.
Events management and content development: Develop strategies and content for targeted events, sponsorships, speaking engagements and thought leadership.
Lateral integration: Collaborate with Recruiting and Practice Development to create lateral integration plans and onboard partners, integrating their clients into the firm.
Metrics and reporting: Maintain meaningful metrics focused on BD behavior, improve efficiency and demonstrate value of the BD program.
Staff management and mentoring: Improve departmental BD service efficiency, support professional development, and foster a positive work environment.

Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written, with a keen ability to capture, distill, and accurately describe services and write about complex legal and technical topics.
A desire to continually learn and grow in law firm business development best practices and the firm’s legal practices, business practices and client industries.
Affinity for technology and innovative marketing and BD efforts.
Strong problem-solving skills and solution execution.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage expectations of attorneys.
Strong customer service ethic and outstanding interpersonal skills.
Highly organized, efficient, detail-oriented with superior proofreading and fact-checking.
Advanced search, data collection and reporting skills, including CRM tools and proprietary research databases.
Advanced Excel skill and proficiency in MS Office suite.
Capable of maintaining productivity under pressure and tight deadlines.
Self-motivated, initiative-driven and able to work independently.
Reporting to the Director of Business Development and supervising BD team members, the qualified candidate will have 10+ years of legal or professional services BD experience and prior team management. Strong knowledge of public companies, litigation, and cross-sell BD strategies required. Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or J.D. preferred.
