Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company is among America's oldest privately owned, family‑operated trailer manufacturers. With our corporate headquarters in City of Industry, California, we have five manufacturing factories in the United States and one in Mexico, along with two other parts or service‑related operations. Our Utah plant is currently accepting applications for an Environmental Health & Safety Manager.
Job Summary Provide support in the areas of Environment, Health, Safety, Training, and Worker’s Compensation. Reporting to Plant Manager and Corporate management, the EHS Manager is the program manager for occupational safety and environmental compliance at the facility. The EHS Manager is responsible for implementing and managing EHS programs to meet both regulatory requirements and Utility Trailer’s EHS policies and programs.
Job Responsibilities and Tasks
Administer and support established Corporate EHS Programs, including training, reporting, record keeping, and auditing for compliance.
Provide leadership and direction to employees for the purpose of improving safety and performance.
Train employees to ensure implementation and adherence to EHS policies and procedures.
Manage and coordinate injury/medical management programs as needed, including all aspects of Workers Compensation (Insurance, Medical Providers and employee return to work).
Inspect facility to identify safety hazards and audit compliance with current safety policies and procedures. Ensure safe work environment and practices, and compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations and standards.
Analyze and report EHS metrics, such as injury trends, insurance claims, and corrective action tracking/closure to local and corporate management for purposes of internal and external reporting.
Lead incident investigation teams, and coordinate corrective/preventative action measures and closure.
Manage and evaluate internal first responder services (e.g., employee first aid and Haz Mat spill response).
Manage Industrial Hygiene programs, including Welding, Noise, Ergonomics and Heat Stress.
Manage environmental programs, including hazardous/universal waste, stormwater, and air permit compliance, following the guidance of the Corporate EHS Department.
Monitor and evaluate compliance with budgetary goals related to Safety, Waste Management, Medical and Outside Services related costs.
Respond to inquiries from insurance carriers, regulatory agencies, and Corporate EHS.
Monitor changes in EPA, OSHA, and state regulations, and update management on any modifications that need to be made in response to the altered regulatory landscape.
Provide support on EHS projects and tasks as determined by Corporate EHS and business needs.
Education, Experience and Skills Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an EHS specialty is preferred, but experience may be substituted.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing occupational safety and environmental compliance.
Effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
Well organized and detail oriented.
Self‑starter that takes the initiative and brings projects to completion.
Strong leadership and team building skills.
In‑depth knowledge of OSHA regulations. (CFR 29 1910 General Industry)
Computer skills: proficiency in Excel and Word.
Familiarity with United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Utah environmental regulations is a plus.
EHS certifications and experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
First aid training and skills with EMS experience a plus.
