Job Title:

Controller (Hybrid: 2-3x in office per week, Baltimore area) Compensation : $160-180k base + bonus Requirements : Must be local to the Maryland area and must be a US Citizen Overview / Role Summary We’re seeking an experienced Controller to lead and own the accounting function for a growing, mission-driven organization. Reporting to the CFO, you’ll run the month-end close, produce GAAP financials, manage cash and banking, oversee tax and audit processes, and build and develop a small accounting team (4–6 professionals). This is a hybrid role with regular on-site collaboration in the Baltimore area. What you’ll own Act as a strategic finance partner to the CFO and executive leadership, translating financial data into business insight. Manage the full accounting lifecycle: month-end close, financial statement preparation (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow), and general ledger integrity. Maintain and document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance. Oversee A/R, A/P, bank reconciliations, and cash forecasting to optimize liquidity and working capital. Lead audit preparation and serve as primary contact for external auditors; coordinate tax compliance and filings. Support budgeting and forecasting in partnership with FP&A; prepare lender reporting and monitor covenant compliance as required. Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team; drive process improvements and system adoption. BA/BS in Accounting (or equivalent). 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with prior controllership responsibility. Strong technical skills in accounting systems (experience with Sage Intacct or a similar cloud GL is preferred) and advanced Excel proficiency. Demonstrated ability to maintain GAAP financials, manage audits, and lead tax compliance. Process-oriented mindset with solid leadership, communication, and team-development skills. Nice to have CPA credential strongly preferred. Advanced degree (MBA or Master of Accountancy) is a plus. Prior public accounting experience and/or background in healthcare. Familiarity with reporting/BI tools (e.g., Power BI) an advantage. Compensation & Work Style Competitive salary (market-aligned) with full benefits.
