Overview
2025-26 Security and Safety Specialist - Sweetwater Community at Paradise Valley Unified School District. This is a non-interim, full-time position.
Location: Sweetwater Community
Grade 14, $15.94/hour. Start Date: 08/01/2025.
Purpose The job of Security and Safety Specialist is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students, staff, and community members while on school grounds and in alignment with school and district policy and procedures.
Essential Functions
Communicates safety and security policies and procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring understanding and maintaining a positive campus climate.
Monitors student behavior before and after school, during and between periods, and at events; may supervise lunchrooms, classrooms with substitutes, detention, open areas, athletic events, and other events as needed.
Assists students in complying with guidelines to maintain a safe learning environment and secure the facility.
Patrols school facilities (grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots) to provide visibility, maintain safety, and promote a positive campus environment.
Supports the implementation of the school emergency response plan during emergencies (lockdown, evacuation, shelter in place, etc.).
Prepares written materials documenting student behavior activities and conveying information.
Provides traffic and parking control to maintain efficient flow and use of parking areas.
Refers incidents (injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations) to appropriate site personnel for follow-up per guidelines.
Responds to incidents (accidents, injuries, vandalism, alarms) to take appropriate actions to resolve safety and security concerns.
Participates in meetings, in-service trainings, and workshops to perform job functions.
Supports campus culture by encouraging students to reflect on actions and find constructive remedies.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit and well-being of the campus.
May assist or be assigned to other district campuses as needed.
Participates in district/local in-service training and behavioral safety training.
Attend district behavioral safety training for de-escalation strategies.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Adhere to safety practices; operate standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records.
Basic math, ability to read procedures, write routine documents, speak clearly, and follow multi-step instructions.
Ability to schedule activities, collate data, work with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, and work as part of a team.
Strong communication, problem solving, and adaptability to changing priorities.
Physical/Work Environment The usual physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job generally requires 35% sitting, 50% walking, and 15% standing, with exposure to temperature extremes and potential risk of injury or illness.
Certification & Licenses Online Driver Training Certification; Driver's License and Evidence of Insurability; Behavioral Safety Training; Criminal Background Clearance; Bleeding Control Training; AED Training; First Aid and CPR Certificate.
